We're looking for a Casual Chef to help out on the weekends. You'll deliver consistently high-quality food, have strong food safety and health and safety compliance, and be a great team player.

Job Description: Cook

Reports to: Café Manager

The Cook supports the day-to-day operations of the Christchurch Adventure Park kitchen by preparing and cooking menu items, maintaining high food quality standards, and contributing to efficient kitchen service.

This role is responsible for delivering consistent, well-presented food during service while supporting overall kitchen operations, hygiene, and workflow. The Cook plays an important part in ensuring the café maintains its reputation for quality, consistency, and a positive visitor experience.

 

Key Responsibilities

· Prepare and cook menu items to café standards, ensuring quality, consistency, and presentation.

· Assist with food preparation, including portioning, plating, and service setup.

· Work across service periods, maintaining pace and accuracy in a high-volume kitchen environment.

· Support kitchen operations from prep through to service and clean-down.

· Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen and storage areas at all times.

· Ensure food is handled, labelled, stored, and rotated correctly to maintain freshness and minimise waste.

· Maintain a strong focus on food safety and health and safety compliance.

· Assist with stock management, including receiving deliveries and restocking as required.

· Support portion control and contribute to minimising wastage.

· Assist with dishwashing and general kitchen support tasks when required.

· Work collaboratively with the wider café team during peak periods and functions.

· Undertake other duties as required to support kitchen and café operations.

 

Professional Requirements

· Experience in a commercial kitchen environment preferred.

· Ability to prepare and cook simple menu items to a consistent standard.

· Basic understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.

· Ability to perform in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

· Strong work ethic with a proactive and reliable approach.

· Good time management and ability to prioritise tasks effectively.

· High standards of cleanliness, personal hygiene, and presentation.

· Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

· Physically capable of working in a demanding kitchen environment.

· Positive attitude and willingness to learn and develop culinary skills.

· Availability to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required.

· Clear written and spoken English communication skills.

· Legal right to work in New Zealand for the duration of employment.
