Mountain Bike Patroller - Full Time

CAP is known locally and nationally for our outstanding mountain bike trails and experiences, and biking continues to be an area of significant growth for the business. We cater for beginners right through to advanced riders, as well as hosting international events and races.

We’re on the lookout for outgoing and capable Mountain Bike Patrollers to join the crew at Christchurch Adventure Park.

If you're looking to change things up this summer and step away from the 9–5 desk job here's a job where you can spend your days outside, riding your bike, and helping people when they need it most. Whether you’re looking to gain new skills, take a break from the routine, or kick off a career in outdoor operations, this is your chance. Bring the right attitude and we’ll train you up, prior experience desired but not essential. You’ll build confidence, learn emergency response and first aid skills, and be part of an epic team in one of New Zealand’s most unique workplaces.

This is a critical role in ensuring the safe and smooth operation of the Park, where you'll be a front-line presence, regularly interacting with guests, keeping stoke levels high, and delivering a world-class patrol response.

About the Role:

As a Patroller, you’ll be responsible for ensuring safe trail conditions and acting as first response when incidents occur on the trails. You’ll need to keep a cool head, communicate clearly, and show compassion while managing incidents—including clear handovers to emergency services when required.

The role also includes duties in lift evacuation and trail maintenance, so a strong work ethic, safety-first mindset, and flexibility are key.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Front-line guest interaction in a fast-paced, high-pressure tourism environment

  • Administering first aid outdoors in variable and sometimes challenging conditions

  • Accurate handling and reporting of incident information

  • Trail inspections, signage maintenance and hazard management

  • Monitoring and updating trail status for public communication

  • Supporting lift evacuation procedures

  • Collaborating across teams and leading safety initiatives park-wide

What We’re Looking For:

  • PHEC Certification (Pre-Hospital Emergency Care) or higher – essential.

  • Full NZ Driver's Licence (confident manual/off-road driver)

  • Advanced mountain bike skills

  • Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather

  • Available for evenings, weekends, public holidays, and the Christmas/New Year period

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) in English

  • A team player who thrives in a tight-knit crew and gets the mahi done

You’ll Also Be:

  • Calm and compassionate in emergencies

  • A strong decision-maker under pressure

  • Focused on safety and risk awareness

  • Confident in critical thinking and incident resolution

  • Detail-oriented and proactive, with a willingness to jump in wherever needed

Seasonal Info:

We’re currently hiring for our summer season intake, with start dates available in September or November, and the season running through to April.

What We Offer:

  • A bike to use during work hours

  • Free staff chairlift pass

  • Industry discounts with partner brands

  • Discounted staff meals on-site

  • Experience not necessary – full training provided

  • A great bunch of like-minded outdoor enthusiasts to work alongside

If this sounds like your kind of workplace and you’re keen to be part of our dedicated team, we’d love to hear from you!

To apply, send your CV and a cover letter telling us why you’re the right fit for the Mountain Bike Patroller role. Generic, copy-paste applications won’t stand out – let us know why CAP is where you want to be!
