Reports to: Guest Services Supervisor

 

The Retail Team Leader supports the effective day-to-day operation of Christchurch Adventure Park's retail operations by delivering exceptional customer service, leading the team, driving merchandise sales, and ensuring the efficient delivery of retail and rental services.

 

The role plays a key part in championing Christchurch Adventure Park's unique adventure tourism offering through the sale and promotion of mountain biking, sightseeing activities, apparel, souvenirs, and adventure-related merchandise. The Retail Team Leader contributes to creating memorable guest experiences while maintaining high standards of customer service, presentation, safety, and operational excellence.

 

Key Responsibilities

·         Lead and support the team members to deliver consistently professional, friendly, and engaging customer service, with a solutions focused approach.

·         Create a welcoming and informative retail environment that enhances the overall visitor experience.

·         Support stock management processes, including receiving, replenishment, stock presentation, and inventory control.

·         Identify opportunities to increase sales and average transaction value.

·         Monitor product performance and provide recommendations on stock range and merchandising opportunities.

·         Ensure retail displays and visual merchandising are maintained to a high standard and reflect campaigns and promotions.

·         Support the Guest Services Manager in implementing sales initiatives and achieving retail performance targets.

·         Maintain strong knowledge of mountain bikes, riding equipment, apparel , accessories and industry trends.

·         Act as the first point of escalation for customer concerns, resolving issues professionally and efficiently.

·         Liaise with workshop team regarding rental fleet condition, availability and maintenance requirements

·         Support the fitting of rental bikes, helmets, and protective equipment, ensuring guests are safe and confident before entering the park.

·         Actively promote Christchurch Adventure Park products, including activities, passes, coaching programmes, bike rentals, apparel, souvenirs, and adventure tourism merchandise.

·         Promote safe riding practices and assist guests in selecting suitable trails and experiences

·         Assist guests with selecting appropriate products and equipment based on their needs and experience levels.

·         Maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation throughout retail, rental, and guest-facing areas.

 

Professional Requirements

·         Previous experience in a retail, tourism, hospitality, outdoor recreation or customer-facing leadership role.

·         Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and develop team members.

·         Strong sales and customer service skills.

·         Passion for mountain biking or outdoor recreation.

·         Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.

·         Proven ability to learn new systems and operational procedures.

·         Physically capable of working on feet for extended periods and lifting retail stock and equipment.

·         Availability to work evenings, weekends, public holidays and peak tourism periods.

·         Clear written and spoken English communication skills.

·         Legal right to work in New Zealand for the duration of employment.

 

Highly Desirable

·         Active mountain biker with knowledge of trail networks, riding styles and bike equipment.

·         Experience in the cycling, outdoor recreation, tourism or adventure sports industries.

·         Experience fitting bikes, helmets and riding equipment.

·         Familiarity with bicycle maintenance and basic mechanical adjustments.

·         Current First Aid Certificate.
