Trail Builders
We are looking for trail builders to work on our existing trail network in a maintenance & new build capacity, with Roles starting mid-April 2025. You will work outdoors, doing hard physical labour with a crew that relies on you for safety and teamwork. Your ability to work consistently under the instruction of a supervisor, often under challenging conditions, will be necessary to the role.
Experience in mountain biking, building similar projects and using provided equipment such as spades, picks, mattocks and chainsaws is essential. You must have physical strength, endurance, and work well with your hands. Good collaboration, following instructions, and safety rules, are also important.
Responsibilities
Adhere to all safety guidelines on site and ensure others do the same. *Unload and carry materials at construction sites. *Manage equipment and transport as required. *Work under the instruction of the Trail Supervisor to build trail according to set design standards. *Identify short term and mid term maintenance items and be able to collaborate as a team to find optimum solutions. *Maintain a professional approach as part of a new team responsible for an essential part of a large project—any other duties as required.
Requirements
Proven experience as a trail builder, including knowledge of basic trail building principles. *Proven experience working under supervision and as part of a team. *Proven experience in operating equipment such as spades, picks, mattocks and chainsaws. *Proven experience with 1.7T, PT30 & 3.5T excavators with WTR favourable. *For chainsaw operation, we expect you to have (or to get) NZQA standards 6916 - demonstrate knowledge of the code of practice relating to chainsaw operation), and 6917 - demonstrate basic chainsaw operation. In your application, be clear whether you have this or will get it before starting work. *Full New Zealand Drivers License or equivalent *A safe working knowledge of the English language, written and oral. *High school diploma or equivalent. *The legal right to work in New Zealand for the full term of the contract.
