Trail Crew Team Leader
Reports to: Operations Manager
Role Overview
The Trail Team Leader supports the day-to-day operation of the Christchurch Adventure Park's trail network by leading the Trail Crew, maintaining trail assets, and delivering high-quality trail building and maintenance programmes.
This role plays a key part in ensuring guests enjoy a safe, progressive, and memorable riding experience. Working alongside the Operations Manager and other Park Operational departments, the Trail Team Leader helps create and maintain a world-class trail network while promoting a positive, safety-focused, and team-oriented culture.
Responsibilities and Duties

Operational Leadership: Lead the Trail Crew Department, coordinating workloads and priorities, ensuring tasks are completed to a high standard.

Safety & Compliance: Adhere to and ensure all Trail Crew team members adhere to all operational and safety procedures, work practices and environmental compliance requirements.

Resource Consents: Work closely with the Operations Manager to ensure all trail building, maintenance, and dirt related activities comply fully with our resource consents.

Equipment & Maintenance: Work with the Operations Manager and Maintenance department to ensure all equipment, machinery, and tools are in safe working order, and that maintenance issues are escalated to the appropriate departments.

Site Standards: Maintain high standards for vehicles, equipment, and tool storage. Work closely with the Maintenance department to contribute to a groomed, uncluttered, and rubbish-free park environment.

Team Leadership: Coordinate team attendance and scheduling, manage training requirements, and assist with the onboarding and training of new staff.

Budgeting: Work with the Operations Manager to deliver projects within budget and identify areas for future investment for long term park sustainability.

Administration: Ensure accurate and timely documentation is maintained for the Trail Department including trail maintenance records, erosion and sediment management controls, and riding conditions.

Stakeholder Relations: Liaise effectively with external contractors, suppliers and volunteer trail groups.

Communication: Represent the Trail Crew at staff meetings and maintain a high-quality, friendly, and cooperative relationship with guests, the team members, and other Adventure Park staff.

Advocacy: Actively promote awareness of sustainable trail building and maintenance practices.

Continuous Improvement: Strive to continually improve safety, trail quality, and overall team satisfaction.

Task Execution: Perform all tasks assigned by the Operations Manager within realistic timelines.
Qualifications & Experience

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience as a trail builder, including a strong knowledge of trail building principles and the NZ bike trail grading systems.

Environmental Knowledge: Must possess a broad understanding of basic erosion and sediment controls.

Leadership: Proven leadership abilities with the capacity to organize teams and consistently deliver results.

Equipment Operation: Proven experience operating heavy and manual equipment, including excavators, spades, picks, mattocks, chainsaws, and bikes (can ride a bike down blue trails-ideal).

Licences & Certifications:

Hold NZQA standards 6916 and 6917 (or higher) for chainsaw operation (ideally)

Hold a current Wheels, Tracks, and Rollers (WTR) endorsement.

Communication: Excellent communication skills with a strong command of written and spoken English.

Resilience: Enjoy working outdoors and possess the ability to maintain high service standards and morale during inclement weather conditions.

Attitude: Positive, dedicated, and highly organized.

Eligibility: Must hold the legal right to work in New Zealand for the full term of the contract.
